FREELANCE DESIGN
(August 2020 – Present)
During the rapid changes of 2020, I switched to freelance design, which has now become one of life’s best happy accidents.
I set out on a mission to partner myself alongside those who truly care about what they do. This combination of ‘talent meets passion’ has been my recipe for success. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with new people and projects each month.
This time has also afforded me the ability to venture into new passion projects such as app design, photography and music production – all of which I am beyond excited to release into the world this year.
HEALTH 2000
SENIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER & ACTING HEAD OF DESIGN
(November 2016 – July 2020)
For four years I was part of the design and marketing team at Health 2000 as a senior designer. The diverse role included producing monthly magazines and point of sale, weekly EDMs and social media marketing, product design and packaging, event photography, annual report design and event promotion.
During my last year, I was acting Head of Design providing parental leave cover. This involved managing and organising the teams’ work flow and delegating tasks: giving creative direction, overseeing projects and ensuring deadlines were met. One thing I found a lot of satisfaction in, was improving and simplifying workflow to make things more efficient as well as better designed. I loved the responsibility and was very grateful for the team was able to lead.
It was great to be able to combine my talent as a designer, with my personal passion for physical health, nutrition and exercise. I greatly valued the experience and knowledge I gained during my time. Unfortunately my role, as well as others in the support office, was disestablished due to restructuring and downsizing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
ALEXANDRA IMAGES
SENIOR GRAPHIC & WEB DESIGNER
(September 2011 – November 2016)
Alexandra Images provides a wide range of services such as design, print, building and vehicle signage to businesses in Te Awamutu and the greater Waipa region. I began working at Alexandra Images as the lead graphic designer and quickly became an integral part of the team.
I took it upon myself to expand the role and skill set to include sales, quoting and management/production of the digital & wide format print departments. I also added new business services for Alexandra Images to offer, including web design and social media marketing.
I found working in Te Awamutu to be like a micro city, and I communicated on a daily basis with businesses and people of all walks of life. A very rewarding part of the role was being able to offer a complete branding and marketing solution – from logo design to business cards, stationery, building & vehicle signage, uniforms, websites and more.
This was a vital part of my growth as a designer and having that broad overview greatly impacted how I designed. It influenced the way I managed my time, budget, choice of materials and, most importantly, how it would work for the client and their target audience.
